Support Groups and Activities

The Mental Health Association of Tompkins County provides a variety of in-person and online support groups and activities. We aim to create a warm, friendly atmosphere for anyone ages 18+. Activities and groups run daily from Monday to Friday weekly. For our current schedule including contact and location information please check out our calendar. See below for descriptions of our current programs.

  • Arts and Crafts

    Get creative with us! Supplies are provided for a range of arts and crafts activities. All skills are welcome whether beginner or experienced. This groups meets in-person.

  • Book Group

    We consider the problems and possibilities of living with mental illness, using the lens of books to guide our conversations. Individuals select their own book that fits the agreed upon topic. Participants are free to attend any time. This group meets in-person.

  • Coffee Break

    Join us for your morning coffee and an opportunity to socialize and check-in with your peers in a supportive online space. This groups meet online via zoom.

  • Dungeons and Dragons

    We use role-playing and fantasy alongside real life teamwork and communication to accomplish tasks the group encounters in the game. It is an opportunity for socialization, creativity and recreation with like-minded people. This group meets in-person.

  • Employment Counseling

    Forge a path to greater self-sufficiency and get answers to your questions about employment. Support also provided regarding how employment may affect your benefits. This group meets in-person.

  • Games and Activities

    Join us for an online game or activity. It is an opportunity for socialization and recreation with like-minded people. This group meets in-person.

  • Rainbow Support

    A safe safe to meet, socialize, offer and provide support and discuss gender and sexuality for the LGBTQIA community.

  • Movie Matinee

    Join us as we watch a movie. We’ll explore different themes and characters to help us relate to our own mental health. Movie suggestions are welcome. This group meets in-person.

  • Parent Support Group

    A safe, supportive and encouraging space to discuss parenting challenges. This group is for parents and guardians of children under 18 years of age who are experiencing behavioral issues and/or who have a mental health diagnosis. This group meets online via zoom.

  • Peer Perspectives

    Explore topics, concepts and theories relevant to mental health and discuss personal perspectives with others who share similar experiences. This group meets in-person.

  • Restorative Writing

    Writing can bring healing and help us explore the ups and downs of our lives. Prompts will be provided or feel free to write about whatever inspires you. Sharing is optional. This group meets in-person.

  • Senior Group

    In our 55+ “Peals of Wisdom” Senior Group socialize, share information, enhance your emotional health and gain new perspectives. This group meets online via zoom.

  • Wellness Topics

    Includes topics surrounding mental health and living well and an opportunity to bring people together to share their experience of mental health. Participants are welcome to provide topic suggestions. This group meets in-person.
